Methods to correct myopia (shortsightedness)

1. Adult (when myopia is stable)

Options: Optical method or eye surgery .

Optical methods include Ortho-k treatment (orthokeratology), contact lenses or glasses.

Orthokeratology is a treatment to reduce and control myopia. The contact lens is designed with different contours to remold the cornea (without causing any damage to the cornea). Its principle is similar to LASIK surgery. The difference between LASIK and orthokeratology is shown in the table below. When ortho-k treatment is stopped, the outline of the cornea will return to original (the shape of the pre-treatment). Since the treatment effect is reversible, clients can terminate the treatment at anytime. Some people undergo orthokeratology treatment because they do not want surgery.

Eye surgeries including PRK (photorefractive keratectomy), LASIK and LASEK.

2. children (when myopia is increasing)

(1) cannot preform any eye surgery.
(2) Options: ONLY control myopia by optical means, including Ortho-k treatment (orthokeratology), contact lenses or glasses.

Ortho-k treatment (orthokeratology) is indicated to be effective in controlling myopic progression. The contact lenses are tailor-made to fit for each eye. The lenses were worn at night and removed in the morning. Clients will enjoy clear vision without eye glasses.
